Reverse Osmosis (R/O) units will remove suspended solids, dissolved solids, cysts, and viruses; however, for bacteria removal the R/O units must have continuous flow of water through the membrane. When the storage tank is full most R/O units have “Auto Shut-Off Controls” that turn off the water. While the water is turned off, bacteria can start to grow through the membrane, this can result in the compromised R/O unit and make the water quality produced questionable. If bacteria is concern we recommend the Hyper Reverse Osmosis unit. R/O units are available in 3, 4 or 5 stage units that incorporate pre and post filters.
Hyper Reverse Osmosis offers all of the above with the added protection and certification of bacteria removal (such as E-coli). The HRO units are available in 4 or 5 stage units that incorporate pre and post filters.
Distillation uses electric power to purify the water. When the water is boiled it produces steam, steam is virtually pure water, the steam is cooled and collected. Most distillers incorporate an activated carbon filter to polish the water of contaminants that slipped through the boiling process.
Filters Systems, many make claims of being water purification systems; however, these filters are generally designed for taste, not for the removal of dissolved solids, bacteria, cysts or viruses. |

Water Softeners are designed to remove hardness minerals from the water, by using cation resin beads. These beads have positive exchange sites that attract the hardness minerals. To clean the resin a strong salt solution is introduced, this cleans the exchange sites so that they are able to remove hardness again. Some sodium is introduced into the water when the hardness is removed, generally the sodium levels present little to no health risks, but reverse osmosis and distillation units will remove the sodium from the softened water.
Water Refiners are designed to remove hardness and chlorine from the water, by using cation resin beads and ChlortechÔ media.
Water Conditioners are designed to remove hardness, iron and manganese from the water, by using assorted cation resins which enhance the resin removal capabilities. However, not all form of iron and manganese can be removed by this treatment method, some require a problem water system.
Nano-Filtration is designed to remove hardness from the water with the use of membrane technology (no salt required). This membrane is similar to reverse osmosis, but is designed for the purpose of removing hardness, not for the removal of dissolved solids, bacteria, cysts or viruses. |
